Year In Review

There’s been a lot of hype this week about Saturday Night Live’s 40^th anniversary show. So much so that it has somewhat eclipsed the excitement surrounding Temptations Cake of the Week’s second anniversary post! While NBC chose to mark the occasion with a splashy 3.5-hour tribute show, we here at Temptations offer you a tastier look back at the last two years.

Here are a few highlights:

Best Children’s TV character cake:

Most reprehensible behaviour by a customer: Deciding the day of her son’s birthday party that she didn’t want to pay for the superhero cake she’d ordered, a woman named Olga claimed that it was actually her sister – also named Olga – who had placed the order. All further attempts to reach her proved fruitless. The story ended happily when someone else took the cake off my hands (discounted to half price) to celebrate her brother-in-law’s birthday. When asked if he was a particular fan of this superhero she replied, “He is now!”

Most popular cake flavour: unquestionably, chocolate – by a very large margin.

Most common recipient name: Noa

Best cake based on a book:

Best thank you: “Thanks so much for the great cake; my husband absolutely loved it. Unfortunately we’ve not eaten it yet. He wanted to save it in its entirety for when we go celebrate with his family! Meanwhile that left me late last night with dreams of chocolate cake and peanut butter… And I am not sure I will be able to hold out! Thanks a lot again; it really was a hit and made his birthday that bit more special.”

Biggest disaster: In retrospect, I guess the popcorn bag should have been centred. As it was, the pressure of a heavy cake on the unsupported movie reel was just too great and the customers’ attempts to shore up the side proved insufficient. Luckily for me, they were extremely kind and understanding (and reluctantly accepted a full refund).
