You get to learn all types of interesting things in this job. One day you’re studying children’s television show characters or the latest trends in Lego, the next you’re asked to track down the text to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and reproduce it on a cake.
I suppose I could have painstakingly copied out the first two pages of the introduction by hand, but the prospect was more than a little daunting. Instead, I reverted to having them printed out on edible paper – a cop-out, I agree. However, it does provide authenticity and anyway, penmanship was always my lowest grade in elementary school, and things haven’t improved much since.
The cake was a gift for a science librarian who recently won a prestigious award (who even knew those existed?). All I was told about her was that she wears glasses and has brown hair.
Turns out she actually looks nothing like this – as I discovered when I delivered the cake – but luckily she was too overwhelmed by the gift to care.
