Nothing makes me happier than to curl up with a new book. The moment I learned to read, my interest in toys and games simply evaporated. What else can compare to the sense of excitement and wonder that a great book provides?
That being said, once I had read The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, I was pretty much done with Tolkien. All the battles, the endless tramping – it was exhausting. Nevertheless, clearly the series enchants and consumes many other readers.
For the cake, the leather effect was achieved using the same method as the doctor bag from a few posts ago (see here). Because of my inability to make anything evenly, I very practically chose to create deckle-edged pages.
The cover itself is actually an amalgam of a few different Hobbit images, since the actual book covers found on Amazon.com were slightly underwhelming.
(I’m not exactly sure why there’s a quill beside the cake, but somehow it just seemed appropriate.)
