Probably, for purposes of verisimilitude, this cake should have been one of those dense English fruit cakes. Packed with dried fruit and preserved almost indefinitely with alcohol (there’s a family in Michigan who’s held on to their heirloom cake since 1878 – I am not making this up) it could probably stand up to pretty much any disaster.
However, I wouldn’t necessarily want to risk dropping a brick on this hard hat, which was a simple delicious chocolate cake covered in rich ganache. Less sturdy but, I hope, considerably tastier.
