One very popular national pastime here is the annual pilgrimage to admire spring wildflowers. Israelis flock to mountaintops, riverbanks and fields to glory in a profusion of irises, lupines, cyclamen, anemones, hyacinths. Despite this year’s drought, the hardy flowers are everywhere, with the crowds not far behind. A friend and I took advantage of the mild weather this week and joined the multitudes in admiring nature.
The flowers featured on these cakes pale in comparison to the real thing, but on the other hand, will pretty much last forever (you probably won’t want to eat the cake itself after 5 or 6 days, but it’s the art that counts, right?).
