For better or worse, I’ve never been the type of person to jump on the latest trend bandwagon. When everyone began to join gyms and spend hours a day wearing spandex and doing aerobics, I flatly refused. When quinoa and kale suddenly were everywhere, I stubbornly stuck with rice and spinach. When everyone in my grade six class had flower-shaped barrettes with a rhinestone centre,
I had no barrettes at all since I had short curly hair that no barrette would or could clasp. Oh, how I wanted these. I want them even now. OK, bad example.
And then the drip cake came along. According to Marie Claire magazine, this trend hit its stride in the summer of 2016, when it was the latest thing in wedding cakes. You may recall that I very reluctantly agreed to join the cake pop club last year and don’t worry, I’m not going to belabour that point now. Conversely I happily, if belatedly, jumped on board the drip cake train. These cakes are fun and celebratory and extremely appealing. Many drip cakes are topped with chocolate truffles, candy, and cookies, in addition to macarons. But this customer specifically requested blue macarons and not much else so we kept it more pristine. I think I may have gone a bit overboard on the extent of the drip; next time, I’d be more judicious with my ganache pouring.
How are those number-shaped sprinkles standing so stiffly and straight? Would you believe magnets?
The Countdown Continues
It is now 24 days until Erev Rosh Hashanah. Hopefully I desensitized you last week and the shock has worn off. The orders are starting to flow in and preparatory work has already begun. Do you really want to be one of the few left without a magnificent cake centrepiece for your holiday table?
I thought not.
Allow me as well to remind you of our fifth anniversary special promotion. Refer everyone you know to Temptations.
