This cake, although made for a 4-year-old, is a really a throw-back to my childhood because I’m not sure you can even buy a simple box of eight crayons anymore. Well OK, I just looked it up and you actually can. But nowadays who’s going to limit themselves to just eight colours when glitter crayons, metallic colours, neon, fabric crayons, and extreme colour twistable crayons are available? They now come egg-shaped, triangular and square, although the point of that eludes me.
One of the best Chanukah gifts I ever received was a box of 64 crayons with a built-in sharpener. I put it down in a corner and when I went back for it, it was gone. After completing this cake, I finally have closure.
