I’m Lovin’ It

chicken nuggets cake Jerusalem

Doesn’t this photo make you want to just sink your teeth into a hot, fried crunchy chicken nugget? Yes, I know you’re all having a barbecue today, since you will not have fulfilled your Yom Ha’Atzmaut holiday obligation without one. Never fear, because you’ll be amazed to hear that this is not actually real chicken! You can still have your charred meat and then finish off your meal with sweet delicious chocolatey chicken for dessert. Yum.

Not a carnivore? Well the time has just about come when you can buy animal-free meat in your local grocery store. Sounds impossible, I agree. But companies like this one based in Jerusalem are already creating a remarkably authentic pareve product. I have yet to try it but I have it on good authority that it’s quite tasty. What will they think of next?
According to the nutritional information label conveniently attached to the side of this cake, there are a whopping 840 calories and 49 grams of fat to be found in just 20 chicken nuggets.

That makes me feel a little bit smug about not eating these on a regular basis (or ever, I’d venture to say). On the other hand, I have no idea whatsoever how many calories or grams of fat are in the average cake that I produce on a daily basis. There are some things in life that I’m happier just not knowing.

But for those of you who are always happier knowing, here’s a do it yourself how-to guide for calculating the caloric values of any food. This seems like a lot of work to me. (How many calories does a person burn calculating calories in a piece of cake?)

I’ll do you a favour and simplify it for you. Cake is fattening! But I guarantee it’s worth every bite.
