Many of you have been following the events in Israel over the past few weeks with concern. The terrible toll on Israeli civilian life, on our brave soldiers, and on those Gazan civilians who may be uninterested in Hamas’ war, continues to rise. Yet despite the difficult situation, there is a remarkable unity and resolve amongst the people of Israel.
It is being expressed in many ways – emotional and economic support for the embattled communities in the south, daily convoys of supplies and treats from around the country to the soldiers fighting in Gaza, 30,000 mourners attending the funeral of a lone soldier from California.
While some tour groups may have canceled or rescheduled their trips, the same can’t be said for the determined new immigrants who continue to arrive. According to Minister of Immigrant Absorption Sofia Landver, since the start of Operation Protective Edge on July 8, over 2,000 new immigrants have landed in Israel. In the last two weeks alone, at least 228 North Americans and 400 French citizens chose to make aliya.
In times of trouble, the People of Israel stand together. Welcome home.
