I am filled with trepidation whenever I have to transport a cake more than a few blocks, never mind past city limits. They may look sturdy, but those little figures are solid sugar, and not really designed for rough handling.
So at first I categorically refused to accept this birthday cake order – considering that the party was to take place in Italy! But the customer insisted, and even though I offered to deliver it in person, she was confident she could manage it herself.
The recipient is an actor, and this cake celebrated one of his recent roles. The figure traveled separately, but I gather the cake box was placed in an overhead compartment. Against all odds, it reached its destination in one piece – and still fresh! Seems hardly fair that my creations are more well-traveled than I.
