One of the 613 mizvot in the Torah is for every individual to write a Torah scroll. Very few people are capable or even have the inclination to do so. This is a fascinating piece about a man who, later in life, decided to learn to be a sofer (scribe), and to dedicate eight years to writing a Sefer Torah.
